OBJECTIVE


The objective of this project comprises of the following:
  • To develop the current rat repellent in market.
  • To find and study about the frequency of the rats. 
  • To find and study about ultrasonic and its application in drives the pests away including the relevant theories.
  • To design new rats repellent that more efficient to chase away the rats.
  • To find out relevant ultrasonic and other components that will be use in this project. 
  • To test the signal conditioning circuits and analysis the data obtained. 
  • To test the ultrasonic rats repelled on the rats and evaluate its behavior 

BENEFIT/CONTRIBUTION
Rats bring many problems to the human being for centuries. Various methods like trapping, glue boards, live traps, toxic bait and others were used to kill the rats that infest our home. Those methods can be done but unfortunately, it will also make the human being in danger. Therefore, other technique that is much safer to human being is needed to repel those rodents away from our area.
In this project, ultrasonic was chosen to evict away the rats. Ultrasonic sensor has been successfully used in non destructive testing and also widely used in medical imaging such in monitoring inside human body, fetus, health and breast cancer. But in real life, ultrasonic usage is not very familiar to drives the rats away. Moreover, this techniques research in repel those rodents is still in development stage. Indeed, this project is to create a suitable system to drives the pests away which is rats.
This non-invasive method provides the ultrasonic sound with easy installation and portable convenience. The installation of the ultrasonic rat’s repelled system will not interrupt the hearing of human being. Beside, all the benefit supports the ultrasonic rat’s repelled to be chosen over other invasive system. This project also has the potential of contribution into the improvement in driving pests away.

The main benefit is:                    
  • Give the people a product that can repel the rat by using ultrasonic without give harm the human being 
  • More effective product to drive away the rat.   
  • Can be use at home with safely.  
  • To give the product that more efficient to drive away the mouse.

THURSDAY, 23 FEBRUARY 2012 (PROBLEM STATEMENT OF PROJECT)

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The development of Rat Repellent system is to ensure the frequency of Ultrasonic sensor to cover at all houses but it is difficult to do that because the frequency cannot through the wall. So, the solution for this problem is to do a different unit. Small unit is to place at all area that the human detect the habit of rat or the area that always have a rat. By doing the small unit the house is protected by the ultrasonic repellent. The Ultrasonic repellent is not on all the time but it only on when the motion detector detect the rat. The other problem is how to make the main unit function as a wifi to send the signal and receive signal between small units.  So, the solution is to use Radio frequency (RF) 315MHz as the transmitter and receiver. Next is how to communicate between the small unit and the main unit in order to make the process function as a wifi. Lastly is the small unit needed to have a long lasting battery because the user will not to charge the small unit every day. It is because it will burden the user to charge the small unit every day and it gives the badness outlook to user to buy this product.

 
Scope of project

The scope of this project is to develop the current electronic repellent and evaluate the behavior of the rats by using ultrasonic rats repelled.

SUNDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2012 (INTRODUCTION)


INTRODUCTION

In this futuristic era, Ultrasonic sensor has been successfully used in non destructive testing and also widely used in medical imaging. But in real life now, Ultrasonic sensor has been use in repellent the rat away from the house. Indeed, this project is to develop the electronic repellent and suitable system to drives the rats away effectively .For the scope of this final year project, the pests are the rats. They are repelled by ultrasonic frequency in the range of 30 kHz to 50 kHz. However, all pests do not react at the same ultrasonic frequency. So this project is to develop a product that can chase a rat effectively using ultrasonic sensor without harm anyone even the human. This project is containing the main unit and small unit. For the main unit it contains RF receiver and microcontroller. Meanwhile, for the small unit it’s contains motion detector sensor, RF transmitter and Ultrasonic circuit. The microcontroller is to control the sequence of this project after it gets the signal from RF transmitter and receiver. The other Ultrasonic repellent has their advantage and disadvantage. So, this project is to developing the disadvantages of the old Rat Repellent product.

ABSTRACT

The general propose of Rat Repellent is to drive away the rat using the ultrasonic sensor. Rats are some of the most troublesome and damaging rodents in the world. They consume and contaminate food, damage structures and property, and transmit parasites and diseases to other animals and humans. There are many ways to manage rat’s problem. For controlling rats indoors, some people will use traps, baiting, toxic bait and electronic repellent. So, this project presented the development application of ultrasonic in repelling the rats away and will not harm the rats and the human being. Normally, just use rat trap to kill the rats that infest our home. The poisoning method is one way to get rid of the rats, but it will take time to kill them. 

Therefore the rats will live in a certain time and if the rats go to somewhere where the food exists, the rats will contaminate it with the poison. It will be danger if the human eat the foods that have been polluted with the poisoned rats. Therefore, a system that can be applied non-invasively is more preferred to repel the rats away. This system should be able to produce ultrasonic noise which can chase away those rodents. This ultrasonic rat’s repelled system is to drive the rats away from our area. Getting rid of the rats is considered crucial since the hygiene of the rats can affect human’s health. The system is designed in a non-invasive method where this technique will not harm the rats and the human being. To further improvement to this project, it also use motion detector to detect the rat and uses via wireless to transmit the signal and receive the signal. Then, the microcontroller ON the ultrasonic circuit to drive away the rat by the frequency that only rat can hear. It will cause a distress to the ear of rat and that why it chase after hearing the frequency.

Research on conventional product in the current market now:


1) Attack Wave Pestrepeller
This product is effective in controlling mice, rats, cockroaches, fleas, crickets, ants and most of the other common pests. Laboratory research has shown ultrasonic sound waves attack the auditory and nervous systems of most common pests causing them pain and discomfort. With 130 decibels of sound pressure, pests will give up their source of food, water and shelter and move on. These high-intensity sound waves are out of the hearing range of human beings and most household pets such as dogs, cats, fish, birds, and farm animals. 

These are the disadvantages of this product:
Do not place ATTACK WAVE PESTREPELLER on carpeted surface, behind furniture, draperies or other soft objects which likely to absorb the sound waves. Do not place ATTACK WAVE PESTREPELLER next to your ear before performing the check by depressing the test button on the back panel. Do not use ATTACK WAVE PESTREPELLER outdoors or let the device come in contact with water.
 
2) Frequency Conversion Ultrasonic Rat Repeller
Laboratory research has shown ultrasonic sound waves attack the auditory and nervous systems of most common pests causing them pain and discomfort.160 decibels of sound pressure. Pest will give up their source of food, water and shelter and move on. These high-intensity sound waves are out of the range of hearing of humans and most household pets such as dogs, cats, fish and birds, and farm animals. Frequency Conversion Ultrasonic Mouse Repeller will not interfere with televisions, radios, electronic burglar alarms, fire or smoke detectors, pacemakers, hearing aids or other electronic equipment. 

These are the disadvantages of this product:
 Do not place Frequency Conversion Ultrasonic Mouse Repeller on carpeted surface, behind furniture draperies or other soft objects as the will absorb the sound waves. Do not place Frequency Conversion Ultrasonic Mouse Repeller nest to your ear before performing this check. Do not use outdoors or let the unit come in contact with water. Only cover about 2000feet to 2500 feet of area.

 3) Ultrasonic rats repellent
The product with modern ultrasonic electronic tech, can stimulate the nervous system and hearing system of the mouse in control field, so that the mouse fell comfortless and fretful, will get away soon. The product with energy saving tech, do no harm to human and your pets.

These are the disadvantages of this product:
This machine should be installed at 20-80 centimeter away from the floor, directly plug into the power socket, The installing point should be avoided from carpet, curtain etc attaching sound material, and should not be faced to the door or window, Or else, the decrease of the sound pressure will do harm on the helminthes effect.
 
  
These are the three product of Rat Repellent in the current market now. So, Iwill develop the old product and upgrade it to become more effective in order to chase the rat away from your house.
